Japanese auto giant Suzuki has reportedly filed a patent for a car called eWX, triggering speculation that it may be launched in India as the electric version of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR.

Suzuki first showcased the eWX during Auto Expo 2023.

The eWX features the same tall boy design as the WagonR, with an overall length of 3,395 mm, a width of 1,475 mm, and a height of 1,620 mm. At the front, it has a closed-off grille with C-shaped light clusters. The lower bumper is adorned with plastic cladding and yellow highlights on the bumper, wheels, and side skirts. Suzuki previously claimed that the eWX can go 230 km on a full charge.

However, it is not yet known if Suzuki will launch it in India as the Maruti Suzuki WagonR Electric.

Maruti has been pursuing a hybrid vehicle plan in India and is known to be working on a Series Hybrid engine with plans to introduce several smaller hybrid cars and hybrid versions of popular models like the Swift.

The carmaker is expected to launch its first electric vehicle, the eVX, via the Nexa channel in 2025. The EV will run on a 60kWh battery pack and is reportedly expected to offer a range of up to 550 km.

Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan has designed the EV and plans to export it as a made-in-India product to Europe and Japan, the report said.
