Cult British zombie-comedy Shaun of the Dead is now 20 years old, and if you’d like to forget about the inexorable march of time thanks to this sudden realization, you might as well rewatch the brilliant film! A special 20th Anniversary Steelbook Edition of Shaun of Dead is available to preorder at Amazon for $43 ahead of its December 3 release. It comes with 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and digital versions of the film. There’s also a 4K Blu-ray edition of the remastered film without the steelbook cover for $30, in case you want to save some cash.
Amazon has already sold out of Shaun of the Dead’s Steelbook Edition multiple times since opening preorders, so fans shouldn’t wait too long to preorder. As of October 18, Amazon’s latest restock is still available.
Directed by Edgar Wright, the first chapter in the Cornetto Trilogy was a smash-hit when it first came out. Combining Wright’s signature style of fast-paced directing that he’d honed on the TV series Spaced with the chemistry of actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Shaun of the Dead was a breath of fresh air at the time. The anniversary edition of the film comes in a slick steelbook cover that pays homage to classic EC Comics covers from the ’50s, while the inside features a delicious selection of Cornetto ice cream prints. It does have a bit of red on it, though. Like other 4K Blu-ray releases, you’ll also get a version of the film on a standard Blu-ray and a digital streaming code, and both discs resemble vinyl records. Just don’t chuck them at any zombies in your backyard.
For the special features, a lot of the previously released bonus content has been included with this release alongside a new feature, Shaun of the Dead: 20 Bloody Years. This is a look back at the film with Wright, Pegg, and Frost, as they reflect on the film and its history. Here’s the full list of bonus content:
- Shaun of the Dead: 20 Bloody Years feature
- Deleted scenes
- Feature commentary tracks
- Casting tapes
- Simon Pegg’s video diary
- Zombie gallery
- Make-up tests
- Extended bits
- Edgar and Simon’s flip chart
- Storyboard gallery
Shaun of the Dead was just the first of three films in Wright, Pegg, and Frost’s grand Cornetto trilogy. If you’re looking to watch all three movies in 4K–which vary wildly in genre–they’re all bundled together in one convenient box set.
The second film in the trilogy, Hot Fuzz, is a killer mix of action and murder-mystery in a small British village, and several years later it was followed by The World’s End, an epic pub crawl filled with alien invaders and robotic doppelgängers.
This is currently priced at $27 (was $60) and includes the films on 4K Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray, and digital. There’s also a standard Blu-ray version for $17.
