As ONDC continues to onboard a greater number of large scale Indian retail businesses, Reliance Retail is trying out the online platform with Fynd, in which it holds a stake, ET Bureau reported. So far, Reliance Retail’s Madurai based store named Shri Kannan Departmental Store in Tamil Nadu has gone live on the ONDC seller side through Fynd.

“This is being done as a pilot,” an anonymous source close to the development told ET Tech. “A few more stores in Tamil Nadu are in the pipeline. They are testing it out. If it works, then Reliance Retail will scale it up to five stores and then to 100 stores on ONDC. Gradually all brands owned by Reliance Retail will go live on ONDC.”

Reliance Retail acquired the Shri Kannan Departmental Store for Rs 152.5 crore several years ago, the Hindu reported. The store retails groceries as well as fast moving consumer goods such as personal care products and more.

The government aims to democratise the e-commerce landscape with its ONDC platform which shows products available on large scale platforms alongside goods by small sellers. The business was incorporated at the end of 2021.
