Refreshed Handheld Gaming PCs : rog ally x

The ASUS ROG Ally X is the latest iteration in the company’s foray into the handheld gaming PC market. Announced on May 9, 2024, the ROG Ally X is not a successor to the original ROG Ally but rather an update that introduces several enhancements. The device now comes in a new black color variant and boasts a significant improvement in battery life, estimated to be 30-40% greater than its predecessor. This increase in battery performance has resulted in a slight increase in the device’s weight. ASUS has also focused on making the ROG Ally X more repair-friendly, with interchangeable joystick modules and an expanded M.2 2280 SSD slot, facilitating easier upgrades and repairs for users.

The ROG Ally X retains the AMD Z1 Extreme CPU and the 7-inch LCD display capable of 1080p resolution and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, as featured in the original model. The announcement of the ROG Ally X coincides with the first anniversary of ASUS entering the handheld gaming PC market. Despite the competition from other brands like Valve, Lenovo, and MSI, ASUS continues to showcase its commitment to this segment. The ROG Ally X is expected to maintain the versatility of its predecessor, functioning not only as a portable gaming device but also as a fully functional PC when connected to a docking station.
