RedBus forecasts 55% surge in travel demand from Delhi, ET TravelWorld


Leading online bus ticketing platform redBus predicts a massive 55 per cent jump in travel demand coinciding with the Delhi school summer holidays. Over 1440 daily buses will serve Delhi, with Manali, Shimla and other hill stations being top choices for vacationers.

A Holiday Rush is observed as bookings are skyrocketing for travel between May 22 and June 7, compared to the same period last month. To meet this surge, private bus operators are deploying over 1440 daily services from Delhi, ensuring smooth travel for vacationers. Heavy crowd is expected at key boarding points like Kashmiri Gate, Anand Vihar, Majnu Ka Tilla, Dhaula Kuan and Morigate during this period.

As people escape the heat in North India, hill stations are hot favourites currently. redBus reports a surge in bookings and is offering discount on bus bookings. Popular routes this summer include:

  • Manali-Delhi
  • Kasol-Delhi
  • Shimla-Delhi
  • Haridwar-Delhi
  • Rishikesh-Delhi
  • Dharamshala-Delhi
  • Dehradun-Delhi
  • Nainital-Delhi
  • Agra-Delhi

“This data highlights the crucial role of bus travel in making vacations accessible,” said Prakash Sangam, CEO, redBus. “We encourage booking in advance to avoid last-minute hassles. This surge underscores the vital role of buses during peak periods and the growing trend of leisure travel in India.”

FlixBus has also opened two new lounges in Anand Vihar, RK Ashram, apart from Kashmiri Gate. These lounges provide travelers a clean environment to unwind before their journey and include amenities such as Wi-Fi connectivity, cloakroom facilities, and pristine accommodations. In last three months, FlixBus in India has covered 1,439,414 km with distance per ticket being close to 400 km. It has a total of 144 stops located in 56 cities across the country.

More women-centric featuresData revealed by redBus shows a growth of 21 per cent of women passengers in the last quarter compared to the corresponding period last year, with 33 per cent of passengers now being women. To enhance the travel experience for women, redBus launched women- specific interface on its app on May 13.

With a separate booking flow for women, the concept aims to revolutionise the bus travel experience for female passengers. A large number of women choose to travel by bus and to address the issue of anxiety and enhance the overall travelling experience, redBus is also introducing a priority helpline which ensures immediate assistance for any query.

“As the quality and experience of bus travel has improved, women are feeling reassured and are increasingly preferring to travel by bus. We expect that this focused approach will not only encourage more women to travel but also motivate more bus operators to cater to the needs of this growing cohort,” said Sangam on new women-specific funnel on redBus app.
