Namo Bharat stations to soon have shopping, banking facilities, ET TravelWorld

The Namo Bharat train commuters will soon have access to shopping, dining, and banking facilities at the stations, as announced by the National Capital Region (NCR) Transport Corporation on Monday.

These amenities will be situated within the station premises, strategically placed near entry and exit points, with the aim of enhancing passenger convenience, according to a statement released by the transport authority, reported PTI.

With the recent milestone of one million passengers transported by Namo Bharat trains, and considering the increasing number of daily commuters, the availability of these facilities within the station premises is expected to further improve passenger experience, the statement noted.

The NCRTC unveiled plans for commuters to enjoy a range of amenities such as shopping, dining options, food outlets, and banking services, alongside the swift and comfortable travel provided by Namo Bharat trains.

Invitations for bids to secure commercial spaces at stations along the operational corridor have been extended by NCRTC. The initial phase includes bids for spaces at Sahibabad, Guldhar, and Duhai stations, with a submission deadline of June 4. Bid documents are accessible on the NCRTC website.

Currently, Namo Bharat train services operate at eight stations along the 34-km section between Sahibabad and Modi Nagar North, with plans to open commercial spaces at other stations within this section soon.

Details of available commercial spaces at Sahibabad, Guldhar, and Duhai stations were provided, highlighting the opportunities for various commercial establishments such as restaurants, food outlets, shopping venues, banks, and offices.

The operational section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, spanning 34 km, is slated to extend to Meerut South station, increasing the length of the operated section to 42 km.

Construction is progressing swiftly on the remaining stretches of the 82 km corridor. The target is to commence Namo Bharat train operations along the entire corridor by June 2025.

The currently operated 34-km section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is expected to soon extend up to Meerut South station, increasing the operated section length to 42 km.

The Metro Railway earned INR 3.40 crore in that section during the period, the statement said. Howrah Metro station has been the busiest station during the last two months in the corridor. This station has recorded 11.67 lakh passenger count which has been the highest passenger count among all the stations in this corridor.

The entire corridor spans 82 km, with construction progressing rapidly on the under-construction stretches. The target is to start the operation of the Namo Bharat trains along the entire corridor by June 2025, it added.
