Malaysia to increase visa filing fees for expatriates and dependants starting September 1, check details, ET TravelWorld


Malaysia‘s MYXpats Centre, part of the Immigration Department’s Expatriate Services Division, has announced a rise in visa filing fees effective September 1, 2024. This change affects several key visa categories, including the Employment Pass, Professional Visit Pass, Long Term Social Visit Pass, and Dependent Pass.

Fee increases by category- Employment Pass (EP): The filing fee will increase from MYR 800 to MYR 2,000. Professional Visit Pass (PVP): The fee will rise from MYR 800 to MYR 1,200. Long Term Social Visit Pass: The fee will go up from MYR 450 to MYR 500. Dependent Pass: The new fee will be MYR 500, up from MYR 450.

As per report, the Employment Pass allows expatriates to work in Malaysia, valid for up to 60 months and linked to their employment contract. Holders can apply for a Dependant Pass for immediate family members, including spouses and children under 18. The Professional Visit Pass is designed for foreign talents with relevant qualifications who come to Malaysia temporarily to provide services or receive training from a Malaysian company for up to one year.

Malaysia Aviation Group to cut flight capacity by 20 per cent this year

Malaysia Aviation Group, the parent of Malaysia Airlines, announced a 20% reduction in network capacity amid shortages of planes, labour, and parts. This reduction affects domestic routes and flights across Southeast Asia, North Asia, Australia, and other regions. The group aims to ensure credible schedules and an optimal customer experience.

The Long Term Social Visit Pass is issued for stays of at least six months, with possible extensions. Foreign spouses of Malaysian citizens can obtain this pass for up to five years, provided they meet certain criteria and can engage in paid employment or business activities without needing to switch to an Employment Pass.In addition to the fee adjustments, the Immigration Department has streamlined its operations by reducing the application processing time from five working days to three for Tier 1, Tier 2, and Critical Sector companies, aiming to expedite decisions for expatriate applications.
