The Akkermansia Company, known for its advanced gut health solutions, has launched its dietary supplement brand in the US. This move introduces American consumers to Akkermansia muciniphila, a bacterium discovered and decoded by the company’s founders, which plays a crucial role in maintaining gut barrier integrity and overall health. Low levels of this bacterium are associated with various health issues, including obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
To address this, the dietary supplement brand has developed supplements containing scientifically validated ingredients that restore and protect the gut barrier. These products are the result of extensive research by Professor Willem M. de Vos and his team at Wageningen University, who were the first to isolate and name Akkermansia muciniphila. Their research led to the creation of pasteurized Akkermansia muciniphila MucT™, the only clinically studied strain in humans, which has shown to improve gut barrier function safely.
