India’s ports ministry directed the Indian Ports Association to implement the wage revision and productivity-linked reward scheme agreed with port worker unions on September 27, averting an indefinite strike planned from December 17.
The agreement, addressing wages, conditions, and modernisation policies, was signed in Mumbai.

Both parties reached a consensus on key issues on wages, working conditions and the implementation of modernisation policies, according to Indian media reports.
On September 27, the labour federations at major ports deferred a planned strike after a settlement on revision of wages and other service conditions, including pensionary benefits, was signed with the chairman of the Bipartite Wage Negotiation Committee and the managing director of Indian Ports Association in the presence of Regional Labour Commissioner in Mumbai.
The decision to resort to an indefinite strike from December 17 was taken at a meeting of the national coordination committee of the port and dock workers in Goa on November 23.
