GJSCI celebrates graduating students at Mumbai SEEPZ


The Gem and Jewellery Skill Council of India celebrated its graduating students at a convocation ceremony. The event was held at the Mega Common Facility Centre in Mumbai’s Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone and marked the graduation of 115 individuals.

The graduating students came from the seventh batch at the GJSCI’s Jewellery Occupational Skilling Hub, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council announced on its website. Students from the first ever batch of Specially Abled Persons also celebrated their graduations at the event on June 27.
 
The Jewellery Occupational Skilling Hub trains jewellers in specific skills for a range of job roles including filing and assembly, computer aided design (CAD) for jewellery, wax setting, diamond assorting, basic metal setting, and polishing and cleaning among others. The recently appointed development commissioner for the SEEPZ Special Economic Zone Dnyaneshwar B Patil attended the convocation ceremony as chief guest along with the SEEPZ SEZ’s joint development commissioner C P S Chauhan and SEEPZ SEZ’s deputy development commissioner Prasad Varvantkar.
 
Many graduating students from the general student batch were offered apprenticeships in various businesses at SEEPZ. Moreover, all graduating students from the Specially Abled Candidates batch were offered employment by Jewelex India Private Limited. The parent of one trainee from the Specially Abled Candidates batch gave a speech at the event to highlight the importance of providing training and hope to underprivileged segments of society.
