The Estée Lauder Companies soon plans to begin local manufacturing in India after retailing in the country for almost two decades. The business is exploring a pilot project with a partner in India to kick off its manufacturing journey in the country.
“There will be opportunities for us to produce locally,” The Estée Lauder Companies Inc’s executive group president Stéphane de la Faverie told the Economic Times in an interview while on a visit to India. “We have also created a series of smaller sizes of makeup to recruit more consumers and give products at more affordable prices. We are ensuring we have different price points for different consumers, and have launched minis only for India.”
Estée Lauder is the world’s second largest cosmetics business after L’Oréal and is based in New York, US. The business runs a wide range of beauty brands including Clinique, Mac Cosmetics, The Ordinary, and Bobbi Brown as well as its Estée Lauder label, according to its website.
Planning to continue to expand across India with an omni-channel approach, Estée Lauder sees the country as representing significant growth potential. The increasing numbers of women entering the Indian workforce, the growing middle class, and the organisation of the retail market all contribute to Estée Lauder’s growing focus on the nation.
