EaseMyTrip launches Easy Green Mobility, ventures into electric bus manufacturing sector, ET TravelWorld

EaseMyTrip, one of India’s largest online travel platforms, has announced its entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of its new subsidiary, Easy Green Mobility, focused on manufacturing electric buses. YoloBus, another subsidiary of EaseMyTrip, will serve as the operational arm for this ambitious project.

The company has committed an initial investment of INR 200 crore for research, product development, and the establishment of a manufacturing plant over the next two to three years. This move signals EaseMyTrip’s strategy to capitalise on India’s growing demand for eco-friendly transport solutions and sustainable mobility, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 24% between 2024 and 2030.

Rikant Pittie, Co-Founder, EaseMyTrip, commented on the initiative, stating, “With a forecasted yearly demand of 125,000 to 150,000 units for electric buses in the next decade, there is a significant opportunity to enhance supply and meet demand by localising production under the ‘Make-In-India’ initiative.”

Three quarter of urban Indians plan festive season travel, domestic destinations leads

Domestic travel is the preferred choice for 72 per cent of those planning trips, with popular destinations including Goa (35 per cent), Kerala (26 per cent), and Himachal Pradesh (24 per cent). Meanwhile, 9 per cent are eyeing international getaways, with the Middle East topping the list at 46 per cent, followed by Europe (35 per cent) and Southeast Asia (34 per cent). Additionally, 19 per cent of respondents are considering a mix of both domestic and international travel.

Easy Green Mobility’s plant will have an initial capacity to produce 4,000-5,000 electric buses, and the company plans to scale up production. Through YoloBus, EaseMyTrip aims to transform intercity travel, offering advanced, long-range electric buses with energy-efficient battery systems. The launch aligns with government initiatives such as the FAME scheme and PLI schemes, which encourage the adoption of electric vehicles across the country. By 2027-28, the company plans to operate over 2,000 electric buses nationwide, accelerating India’s shift toward net-zero carbon mobility.

EaseMyTrip’s venture into the electric mobility sector is poised to set new benchmarks, leveraging its market presence to deliver innovative, sustainable travel solutions both domestically and internationally.
