Charli XCX Condemns Fans’ Disturbing Anti-Taylor Swift Chant

The “Von dutch” singer called out to her followers on social media on Sunday after people at her São Paulo, Brazil, shows were apparently filmed chanting, “Taylor is dead.”

“Can the people who do this please stop. Online or at my shows,” the singer wrote on her Instagram stories, alongside a screenshot of people who were reportedly chanting.

“It is the opposite of what I want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there is room for this in this community,” the 31-year-old wrote. “I will not tolerate it.”

Charli XCX and Swift have a history together. The “Boys” singer was one of the opening acts for Swift’s Reputation tour in 2018.

“I’m really grateful that (Taylor) asked me on that tour,” she said at the time. “But as an artist, it kind of felt like I was getting up onstage and waving to 5-year-olds.”

The singer attempted to clarify her comments and add more context in a follow-up note she posted to Twitter.

“Any tour I’ve been on with any other artist as an opening act has always taught me so much,” she said. “It’s always wonderful to watch other artists do their thing, own their stage, and speak their language to their dedicated fan bases – and this was especially true for the reputation tour.”
