Chanel is set to stage a show in Hong Kong. After a first failed attempt in 2019, the Parisian luxury label has announced new plans for a runway show on the Chinese island. On November 5, Chanel will fly to Hong Kong to present the 2024-25 cruise collection, which it recently unveiled in Marseilles with a show at the Cité radieuse building, an iconic residential project by renowned architect Le Corbusier.

“After a first stopover on May 2 in Marseilles, the cruise collection will travel to another cosmopolitan metropolis, a true gateway to Asia. The event will confirm Chanel’s long-standing links with the city, celebrating the label’s connection with Hong Kong SAR, and with the ebullient modernity of its culture,” the label stated in a brief press release.

Last year, Chanel showed its 2023-24 cruise collection in Shenzhen, China, after a first presentation in Los Angeles. China is a key market for the label, whose sales are constantly growing there. In Hong Kong itself, Chanel operates 13 stores.

The former British colony has experienced several serious political crises after sovereignty was handed back to China in 1997. The ensuing tensions have badly affected retail activity in the city, which was also penalised by the pandemic. Hong Kong’s economy went through four tough years, including an unprecedented three-year recession between 2019 and 2022. The city began to bounce back in 2023, and is again hosting high-profile events. Louis Vuitton showed in Hong Kong last December, while Dior Homme was set to show there in March, but cancelled the event.
